Grace is Greater

She stands there in the temple courts, tussled hair and a linen bedsheet wrapped around her half naked body. She squirms but the religious leaders, who caught her in the act of adultery, hold her in place. They have brought here face to face with Jesus, who was teaching a crowd that had gathered.
.
These religious peeping Tom’s, are hoping to trap Jesus between rules and grace. They smugly ask him what he will do. Like the master that he is, he chooses to answer them with words we are not privy to know. He stoops down and begins to write in the sand with his finger. Maybe it’s a list of their sins, or perhaps simply their own names revealing his all-knowingness, whatever he writes...he stands and invites the ones who are perfect, among her accusers to carry out her penalty of being stoned. Then he simply stoops and begins writing in the sand. The words he writes are filled with such power that every accuser slips away.
.
When she is the only one left standing there, he stands and looks deeply into her eyes and says, “Did any condemn you?” In trembling, she says, “No sir.” And in the kindest voice she ever heard, he spoke these words, “Neither do I, you are free. Now stop living a life of sin.”
.
Wow! Hear me well! Jesus isn’t interested in beating you up and shaming you over your sin. He only wants it gone! He desires your freedom. Others may shout, and gossip, and shame you concerning the sin that you chose...don’t listen to them. The master stands ready to forgive and bury that sin under the blood stains of the cross.
