life in the cemetery

life soul talk Apr 16, 2019

There is something about a cemetery that inspires me. It brings perspective to what truly matters in this life. I can relate to Solomon’s advice:
“It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.”

We all end up here. Our wealth will be transferred to someone else, our vocation will be taken up by another, our legacy will fade over time. Heaven will remember whether we served those considered the least of these, whether we honored the King of kings, or we hoarded glory for ourselves. We can fool many people but not the keeper of the records of our hearts.

As I sit in this place, my mind imagines what it will be like here, when the Lord gives His command, the archangel raises his voice and the trumpet of God begins to sound. This ground will begin to burst open with the bodies of those who followed Christ on this globe, and a transformation of these decayed bodies will happen in a blink.

Today, we are above ground & breathing. How will you be recorded in heaven, and how will those on earth remember you for the season you are on their mind?

It really comes down to how we treat those who cross our paths on this journey through this place. We should be more humble, gentile and gracious. More kind, and generous. Less argumentative, negative and pessimistic. Yep...He’s watching and He’s coming back! We better get busy!
