Teach Your Kids to Pray

There is nothing like listening to a child pray. Nothing. Most start off saying the little rhyming prayers. Then they may try to pray like us parents. There will come a time when they should be taught how to pray like Jesus taught us. No, not just memorizing the Lord’s prayer, which was never Jesus’ intent.

We want to use the framework of the prayer as a method of praying. To do so we learn to answer a few questions. You ready?

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Jesus is teaching us who the Father is. He is HOLY. The question then is:
“ Who do you say God is?”.
.
Get a book of the names of God, and then you and your kids pray some of them out loud to Him. This is a great way to remind us who we are praying to.

“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus is teaching us to trust God’s plan and to join Him in it. The 2nd question then is:
“Do you trust Him?”

Before you present your needs to the Lord, tell Him you trust Him. No matter the answer you trust Him.

“Give us this day our daily bread,”
‭‭God loves to meet our needs. The 3rd question is:
“What is it that you need? What do you want?”
.
Here we pray for everything we are concerned about, people, stuff, wisdom.

“and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
The 4th question is:
“What do I need to confess & who do I need to forgive?”
.
‭‭God loves to hear us confess our sins to Him, and to tell Him who we are choosing to forgive.
.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
The last question is:
“What is my weakness & fear?”
.
Here is where we cry out for protection from sin & Satan.

This little series of questions is all we need to pray about everything that comes our way.
